Day 42: Travelling from Lamlash (Arran) to Fort William
This morning the doomsday forecast of storms and rain did not happen! It was sunny and bright with little or no cloud in sight however having learnt from previous experiences this could change ...very quickly. The forecasted bad weather was on the way and likely to hit around lunchtime.
Everyone else had packed up early and were planning on breakfast on the ferry they were taking to Ardrossan on the mainland. As we were travelling north back through Lochranza catching the ferry back to Claonaig (Skipness) we were not in a great hurry. So after seeing everyone else off we opted for a leisurely
breakfast, finished packing and then left for Lochranza. We planned to stop at the Arran Distillery to pick up a cook book for Noeline (recipes for cooking with whiskey).

Nothing but the best for an Alvis |
 |
Hoods up and packed...... |
 |
Noeline fastens her coat....just in case. |
 |
Mike and Ruth get settled. |
 |
Alan and Noeline ready to go. Lake district here we come.... |
 |
Finally Peter and Janet are set and the band of 3 Alvii head off. |
We did have a slightly false start when Dale discovered he had forgotten to put the radiator cap on
the Speed 20 and we had to go back to the Hotel to collect it, fortunately no harm done. Off to the Arran Distillery to get the book for Noeline, then catch the 10.45 a.m. ferry. Sun still shining!

Arran mountains covered in "Scottish mist" |

Do need to look out for the locals... |
 |
Boarding the ferry in Lochranza |
 |
We had more room this time around. Could even open the doors! |
 |
Coming into Tarbert |
 |
Prepping the Speed 20 (and Dale) for disembarkation. |
Our route took us along the A83 through Tarbert, Lochgilphead,
Inverary to Tarbet where we had a break and cup of tea looking over Loch
Lomond.
From here we continued north on the A82 through Crianlarich, past Ben
Nevis and Glen Coe to Fort William at the head of Loch Linnhe.
The drive past Ben Nevis was very gloomy and wet. We couldn't see much. After checking in we had a pleasant walk along the main street of Fort
William (Sunday afternoon not much was open), found the train station for
tomorrows journey and visited the Tourist Information Centre.
Weather is overcast and there is mist on the hills, but it is showing
signs of improving after today’s rain (fingers crossed).
