Day 37 21/6/16 Tarbert and surrounds on Kintyre Peninsula

Day 37 Touring surrounds of Tarbert on the Kintyre Peninsula

Woke to quite a sunny morning however this quickly shifted to a familiar overcast day.  Still a little cool but have short sleeves under my coat just in case!

After breakfast we decided to head south.  Down to Campbeltown, at the bottom of the Kintyre Peninsula on the A83.  Pasing through Whitehouse, Bellochantuy and Kilmichael.  It is a pretty route through very quaint seaside villages.  We are really noticing the cost of fuel given how thirsty the Speed 20 is - it is at least double Australian prices.  The Brits are paying the same in pounds as we pay in dollars per litre!!

Alan gets his overalls on again! This time for Peters 12/50.

Our Alvi lined up in Tarbert.

Peter is making some adjustments? Alan still has his overalls on.

We hit the road heading south.
A cute Alvi convoy...just loving the lack of traffic.

A fuel top up in Clachan on the road to Campbeltown.

The view across Kilbrannan Sound to Arran

The architesture is again quite different and interesting.

Old cemetery enroute.

Must be Alvis people behaving badly, or at least treating a speed 20 badly

Strange sights in Campbeltown .. moving house?? ....this group have a washer and drier on a trolley and are walking it home....and they have the cheek to look us over as odd.

Oh dear....Mike didn't get enough off-roading yesterday.

Lovely display of flowers in the main street of Campbeltown.
We stopped off for lunch at the Royal Hotel which was quite lovely.  The soup was lovely and the sandwiches were extremely generous. It was a very interesting town.  Dale in the Speed 20 was followed by a woman and her 7 year old daughter just so her daughter could get a closer look at the car.  Dale, taken back by the adoration of the 7 year old offered her a chance to sit in the drivers seat while mum took her photo.  We need to catch them at a young age to ensure ongoing interest in the cars.  Well done Dale!

Speed 20 parked in Campbeltown.
Campbeltown - heading out back towards Tarbert.

I still have a facination for UK chimneys - they are all so different!

After lunch we travelled back on the same "A" road but took a side turn to Skipness Castle.  This is a great example of a 12th Century castle ruin which has been setup so you can get up to the roof battlements where you get a great view of Arran and surrounds.

The weather is starting to close in.

Cross country to Skipness

Lovely rock formations on the roadside.

The road to Skipness deteriorates somewhat.

Road back to Tarbert - 12/60 in front.
The weather picks up a little so we are able to keep hoods down.  Head back to Tarbert.
