Day 14 29/5 Melrose to Blairgowrie Scotland

Day 14 Travelling from Melrose to Blairgowrie

Today we had a wonderful formal breakfast at Fauhope house.  We were quite spoiled - fine crockery laid out on a beautiful period dining table.  After breakfast Sheila wanted to get a photo of the cars so we packed up then lined up for the perfect snap shot.

Leaving Fauhope House we continuing North travelling where ever possible along delightfully quiet back roads.  Today we were headed to a B&B located on a sheep and cattle farm just outside Blairegowrie. Today has started off cloudy but it should fine up and we may even get sunshine.

As we were travelling on a Bank Holiday Weekend, same as a long weekend at home, there was twice as much traffic on the road as everyone headed "somewhere" for the weekend.  Due to strikes in France most Brits are heading north instead.  Particularly bikers, they were out in their thousands including little Vespa things on the freeways and none of them had mirrors and driving them as fast as possible and absolutely "ringing their necks".  Not that we were sitting behind any one of them for long, it is just that there were so many of them we seemed to be constantly passing one.

The route today included crossing the Forth Road Bridge at South Queensferry west of Edinburgh which is being replicated with the new bridge built along side the current bridge.

Headed north until the "it happened" .  Stopping for fuel in Kinross Allen had stopped as Dale and David filled up.  David came across and just noticed an oil stain of the ground under the 12/60.  He investigated a little further and discovered a serious problem with the car that prompted and full mechanical investigation.  We pulled over to one side in the BP service station and out came the tools and overalls.  Fortunately the proprietor didn't seem to mind 3 old cars parked on his property with luggage, tools, seats, rugs and three somewhat unimpressed ladys sitting on the curbing wondering how long this would take.  Noeline, Kaye and I took full advantage crossing over to the cafe to grab a cup of tea and use the free wi-fi to catch up on emails and blog entries.

David and Alan needed to find some allen keys so Dale drove Kaye  to find a “Screwfix” outlet.  They came across a young couple fascinated by the Speed 20 and roped them into helping to find the nearest Halfords. Mean while Noeline and I consumed yet another cup of tea and the boys continued to tinker with the offending car.

Camped out at the BP service station in Kinross.
Back on the road we continued our journey.  It had been a fortunate day which could have ended much differently had the oil leak from the oil filter not been spotted.  All good now and with 2.5 hours lost we hurried along to our next stop outside Blairgowrie
Wonderful buildings scattered across the country side.

The group strolls around the grounds.  It is soooo peaceful......
Glenkilie House is a really lovely place - set in rolling hills and bathed in sunshine a definite slice of heaven. We had old fashioned roast chicken and followed with rhubarb crumble for pudding.  It was delightful and we slept like logs.
