Day 17 1/6 In and around Lunna House (rest day)

Day 17 Rest Day in and around Lunna House

Lunna House is steeped in history and it is not uncommon for Helen to get a knock on the door from visitors looking to visit this historic site.  The Norwegian people have a very strong bond with the house and  the site that gave so much hope in a very dark time in their history.  The house is a time capsule in architecture as well.  Our room dubbed the "Puffin Room" sits in the oldest section (the left wing) of the house dating back to the early to mid 1700's. And yes! there are resident ghosts including 2 cats.  Helen informs us the none are belligerent but still linger about and appear on unexpected occasions.  Fortunately I didn't see any myself.  Helen and Tony are proud custodians of the house and were happy to regale us with story of its history.  There is a definite peace and gentleness about the house and the surrounding grounds. We are privileged to be permitted to stay here.

The morning was quite cold and dreary.  After the hectic last few days we decoded to have a rest day, to catch up on washing, clean and fettle the cats and the boys also helped Tony with his MGB hard top and cleaning Helen’s MX5.

While it was cold and windy the boys still washed and fettled the cars in preparation for the car show
The wind was incredible and it is the first time I have had to dressed up into coats scarfs and hat just to hang out the washing.  Hanging the washing up was also an ordeal in the wind.  Helen had also provided us with storm pegs which I had not heard of before - otherwise your clothes could/would end up some miles down the road.We did suffer considerable "whiplash" trying to hang the washing out and it did dry eventually.
Battling the wind to put the washing out!

The washing battle continues!
In the afternoon we decide to stretch our legs and walk down the hill to Lunna Kirk (church) and the historic wharf and the ruins of a Norman round house. It was cold, a little wet and very very windy.  But it was great to get out in the fresh air and just walk. Tonight Helen has cooked a beef curry for dinner and the aromas from the kitchen are lovely.
