Day 21 5/6/16 Shetland Car Show Day 4 Display day plus tour

Day 21 Shetland Car Show - day 4 display day plus tour

We woke to yet another sunny morning this time with little if any wind.  The concern now was if the midge's (sand flies) would be out??  We have "the spray" but hope we don't need to use it!

Today was the last day of the car show so after yet another lovely breakfast where Helen spoiled us with locally sourced smoked salmon (from the "Handmade Fish Shop") and scrambled eggs.  We set off in the cars with Tony today travelling in the back seat of the Speed 20.

David and Kay in the Firefly lead us out.
We arrived at Clickamen Centre, parked the cars and walked out to the bus stop for our 10 am pickup.
A discussion the night before confirmed that every one had see all they wanted to see at the car show so rather than waste the day we would take an organised tour.  "Roy" was agreeable at short notice and we would meet him outside the centre at the bus stop.

Alan "sniffing" Mike to see if he had taken his missing Chanel aftershave???

Our motley group lined up out of the wind waiting for the tour bus

We had organized a tour of the North West part of the island as we had already seen a lot of the local area our guide "Roy" took us North East through the neck at Mavis Grind where you can almost throw a rock from the North Sea into the Atlantic Ocean.  Then onto Eshaness on the North West Coast.  This is a very rugged area of the Island and the scenery is spectaluar..

We did make one stop at David's request to meet with a most unassuming woman doing amazing work, Jan Bevington who is the founder of the Shetland Island Seal Sanctuary.  She is responsible for the rescue and repatriation of injured or stranded seals in and around the island and is now know across the UK and Europe.  It was amazing to have the chance to met and talk to her about her work.  She is one of those quiet achievers but truly inspirational to met.

This tiny Bric a Brac shop in Hilllswick is used to fund the seal sanctuary owned by a most inspirational woman, Jan Bevington.

At David’s suggestion our driver then took the road along Renies Voe where there was the remains of a Herring Cleaning Station and a strange place with a collection of Reliant Robin’s.

Our tour finished all too quickly and so it was back to Lerwick to collect the cars and then head back to Lunna house for a farewell dinner with Helen and Tony.
