Day 22 6/6/16 Shetland then ferry to Orkneys

Day 22 Last day in Shetland then ferry to Orkney

We awoke to a sunny and bright morning with just a little wind.  It was a busy start to the day, packing up all our belongings Dale and Alan complained that the cars appeared to have shrunk as the luggage was not going in as well as when we arrived!! To help out a little we stripped and made up the beds then had breakfast.  Helen arrived back from the Ferry Terminal with two of her staff who were coming for a team meeting, one from France and one from Italy.  This morning  their son Chris also flew in from the mainland with girlfriend Alicia.  Helen and Tony exchanged one house full of guests for another!

As Tony had already been for a ride in all three Alvii and the weather was very good, we took Helen and her team and Chris for a ride in the cars before saying our final sad goodbyes and wishing them all well, also inviting them to visit us when they next come to Melbourne. Our experiences on Shetland were made far more special and memorable by sharing this with Helen and Tony, we loved every minute..

Cars lined up in the morning sunshine

Teams...start your engines.....

Maritta and McFritz share one last look at the view from Lunna House
Then it was off to Lerwick for some last minute shopping but first Alan, Noeline, Dale and I stopped for morning tea at the cafe we first visited when we arrived.  David and Kay went off for some last minute duties and would meet us at the Museum for lunch.
Golfer on the Shetland golf course... on Shetland they would have to be hardy!

Morning tea stop before hitting the shops one last time.

We parked at the museum Dale and I walked into the village looking for a special mug we had see earlier in the week and an ATM before returning for lunch.

Mid afternoon we headed to the ferry terminal and lined up.  Loading was a bit of an exercise as the Ferry first stops at Orkney, our destination, then goes on to Aberdeen on the mainland. This means the cars have to be loaded in such a way that the Orkney travelers can get off easily. This entails doing a U-turn inside the Ferry, no mean feat in an Alvis.

The cars line up at the terminal...they tended to create a bit of interest.

Cars of all shapes and sizes ...all going home...

Goodbye Shetland....
Hello Orkney's.....
It was a 5 hour crossing to Orkney arriving at 11 pm.  We travelled just a few miles down the road to get to our B&B.  As in Shetland the sun was still up although a little "dimmer" as we were now moving southward.
