Day 30 14/6/16 Day 1 12/50 Register Touring Week.

Day 30 - Day 1 of the 12/50 Register's Touring Week

We awoke to a sunny morning which quickly turned cloudy and overcast.  It was a little chilly.  We gathered for breakfast and managed to catch up with some familiar faces.  Mike and Ruth, Peter and Janet, Ian and Jo, Mike and Jan and also get the chance to put names to faces and meet some new people.  We had chased up Anthony last night and now had our rally pack including the week's touring notes.

Collecting our gear we set off as per the notes.  The country side here is wonderful and the "wee" roads are delightful.  Somewhat narrow but delightful.
Leaving Aberfeldy

Fishermen on Loch Tay
WOW What a day.... a short 90 mile drive that took us from about 100 meters in elevation to over 600 meters in a very short distance several times.  The route took most of the day to complete. This was along roads were in the main all we could see to either side of the car was grass, Dale even had to almost stand up a few times when the road disappeared under the Speed 20’s bonnet and there was grass in all directions, the road tarmac just disappeared. Also a few elbows in the road which we are very impressed that David’s Firefly got around in one shot however a number of both 12/50’s and Silver Eagles misjudged it and had to reverse.

The route took us through the central part of Perthshire, over a moor then along the quieter side of Loch Tay, past the Dochart Falls before climbing up to Ben Lawers (village not a person!) and on into Glen Lyon, the Loch Tummel past Queens View, and through Pitlochry then back to Aberfeldy.

One sheep on the wrong side of the fence - cute black faced sheep!

Humpback bridges are hard to cross - if car is coming from the opposite direction.

Climbing on narrow roads.....

Blind narrow corners can be tricky....

Stone walls are not forgiving if you move off the tarmac.....to let cars pass.

Wonderful country lanes...

Passing can be very tricky....

Another humpback bridge.

The rain starts to come down....

David and Sue in their TF have a "cosy" morning tea stop under a brolly.

Wild deer.

They keep promising but we haven't see one yet.

Lunch stop and a hot cuppa is most appreciated.
We stopped off at the oldest Tree in the world, a Yew dated at 5,000 years!!  The things it has seen...

The base of the 5000 year old tree - it started to grow while stone age man was about!!

The church yard where the oldest Yew tree stands.
Late in the day the Speed refused to turnover but Alan quickly diagnosed this to a loose pole on the starter solenoid, problem solved in very short order, much thanks once again to Alan.

It has been a wonderful day of driving.
